1. Fresh from the land in America at Farm Shop Rasing

In America, you're in the right place if you want a real taste of the season. At Farm Shop Rasing you buy homegrown fruit and vegetables, with asparagus being one of the eye-catchers from April to 24 June. But there's more: fill your basket with dairy, cheese, meat and beautiful local produce. If you are looking for a gift, they make the most beautiful regional packages. Handy: get your asparagus peeled for free. Combine your visit with the Schadijkse bossen in Meterik; count on about 1 hour's walk, 20 minutes' cycle or 10 minutes' drive from the shop.

  • When are you welcome? From 30-3, opening hours with the asparagus season are: Mon-Fri 9am-6pm, Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 9am-12.30pm.
  • Visitor tip: Head out early if you want to combine your visit with a walk or bike tour of the area. Get your first kilo of the season here and make it an instant spring day.

2. At the table and in the woods at Aan de Drift

Aan de Drift is located on the edge of the Schadijkse Bossen and the Heere Peel, making it one of those addresses where a coffee stop, lunch or pancake logically coincides with an afternoon outdoors. At the location itself, you'll also find a nature and information point, and in the kitchen they work with regional products from the region as much as possible. That makes this a strong starting point for an asparagus day in America. From here you can cycle to the Schadijk woods in about 20 minutes, walk there in a good 50 minutes and drive in about 10 minutes.

  • When are you welcome? Check the website for current opening hours.
  • Visitors' tip: Put on your walking shoes if you combine your lunch stop here with a route through the Heere Peel. Don't just stay at the table, but also take in nature for a while

3. Asparagus straight from the source in Tienray

For those who really want to experience the season at the grower's premises, Martens Asperges & Streekproducten in Tienray is a logical stop. Here it's all about white and green asparagus, with years of experience in growing, harvesting and processing. Extra interesting: guided tours are also available, where you can hear more about the production process. That makes this place not only suitable for shopping, but also for getting to know the story behind the white gold better. Museum village De Locht is nearby: count on about a 45-minute walk, a 15-minute bike ride or a 10-minute drive.

  • When are you welcome? Check the website for up-to-date shopping and visiting information.
  • Visitors' tip: Combine your stop here with a second address in Horst aan de Maas for a complete asparagus afternoon - a fine place if you like to buy where actually grown.

Moreover, you are not just here for one exhibition, but for a larger museum village full of agricultural stories. Martens Asperges in Tienray is about a 45-minute walk, 15-minute bike ride or 10-minute drive away.

In and around the restored water mill, you can see two trades coming together: that of the miller and that of the distiller. You can visit and taste what is made here. This fits nicely into a day where you also explore the culinary side of the asparagus season. Kasteeltuinen Arcen is practically around the corner: about a 5-minute walk, 2-minute bike ride or 2-minute drive.

Hiepterhof in Broekhuizen is not a classic accommodation place, but that is precisely why it fits well in this list. At the holiday farm, you'll experience the countryside up close, with flats, camper spaces and views of the area around Maas and nature reserves. History with asparagus is also reflected here. That makes this a pleasant base if you want to combine several asparagus addresses in North Limburg without rushing. Moreover, Hiepterhof is located right next to Het Schuitwater nature reserve. You can walk to the marshland in about 1 kilometre.

  • When are you welcome? Check the website for availability of flats and motorhome sites.

8. By motorhome to the asparagus village of Grubbenvorst

Those who like to visit several villages during the season are in the right place at Camperplaats Kompas in Grubbenvorst. Grubbenvorst is known as an asparagus village on the Meuse, and from here you're nicely located for routes through the region. You don't need to make reservations there; you just drive on when there's space. That makes this a practical base for a few days in northern Limburg. For a quick stop in the village, cycle to IJssalon Clevers Grubbenvorst in about 10 minutes, walk there in about 25 minutes and drive there in 5 minutes.

  • When are you welcome? From 1 March to 1 December, daily from 07:00 to 22:30.

9. Seasonal pancake in Venray at De Perdstal

A nice change if you don't want to eat asparagus in the classic way for a change. De Perdstal in Venray is best known as a pancake house, but that makes it a nice surprise during asparagus season. More than 50 types of pancakes are served here and the season also features on the menu, including asparagus. The batter is prepared with traditionally ground mill flour. Its location near Vlakwater also makes this a pleasant stop during an afternoon in and around Venray. Odapark is close by: about a 15-minute walk, 5-minute bike ride or 5-minute drive.

That makes it a good stop in the Peeldorp, especially if you like to build up your day quietly and hike another bit through the area. For something sweet afterwards, walk to 't IJshofje in a few minutes, cycle there in a few minutes and get there just as quickly by car.

  • Visitor tip: This is a handy site if you like to bundle food, accommodation and Peel environment in one address.

Raadhuisplein 11, 5768 AR Meijel

In northern Limburg, the asparagus season usually runs from April to 24 June. It is precisely during this period that you will see the white gold at growers, farm shops and restaurants in the region.

Farm shop Rasing in America and Martens Asperges & Streekproducten in Tienray are fine addresses for that. There, you buy asparagus close to the source, in the middle of the region where they are also grown.

Museum village De Locht in Melderslo is a great choice then. In the asparagus and auction house, you will discover how cultivation developed in northern Limburg and why asparagus is so much a part of this region.

Hiepterhof, De Maasparel, Grand Café Goejje and Camperplaats Kompas are practical if you want to stay longer. This gives you more time to combine several villages and addresses in northern Limburg.
