The days are getting shorter, the lights are coming back on. The countdown to Christmas has begun! In northern Limburg, that means strolling along stalls, enjoying Limburg delicacies and warming your hands over a cup of steaming mulled wine. From atmospheric village squares to cosy Christmas stalls, North Limburg knows how to create a golden winter atmosphere. 1. The White Stein turns into a cosy Christmas village

On Sunday 23 November, De Witte Stein will transform into a cosy Christmas village. With as many as ninety stalls full of Christmas cheer, this Christmas market in northern Limburg will be bigger than ever. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., stroll past stalls with winter delicacies, handmade goods and original gifts. The children spin their rounds in the merry-go-round, not big, but cosy. And do you still need to put up the Christmas tree at home? No worries, you can find it at De Witte Stein on the market.

2. Kerstmért Gennep: where December comes to life

Mark your calendar: Saturday 13 December is 't Kerstmért in Gennep! On this day, the Markt in Gennep will be transformed into one of the cosiest Christmas villages in North Limburg. From 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., the place is a delight. You will find everything that makes December so cosy: braziers, Father Christmas, stalls with goodies and original presents. But also live music, winter street food and twinkling lights that transform Mért into a small Christmas festival. There is something for everyone. Whether you come for your Christmas shopping, to have a drink with friends or to get into the mood with the family. The little ones? They are certainly not forgotten. The little ones are thought of too, from games to crafts.

3. Sevenum shines during the atmospheric Christmas market

On Sunday 7 December, the square in Sevenum will transform into an atmospheric Christmas market in the middle of northern Limburg. Think twinkling lights, cosy stalls, live music and the smell of hot chocolate and mulled wine everywhere. Local entrepreneurs and associations will be happy to show you their finest Christmas goodies: from handmade gifts to tasty winter snacks. You stroll and enjoy, just in your own village. Fancy something sweet? Taste a warm waffle or a golden brown eigenheymer. Warm up by the fireplace and watch the little ones sparkle on the stage. Christmas cheer? You'll find it in Sevenum this year.

4. Winter fun for young and old in Offenbeek

On 13 and 14 December, there will be plenty to enjoy in Offenbeek. The Christmas market there is a place buzzing with fun. You stroll past atmospheric stalls, taste winter delicacies and get inspiration for your Christmas presents. There is plenty to do for young and old. And for those in the mood for real winter fun: put on your skates, because the ice rink is ready and open to everyone free of charge. Why look far away? In this cosy Christmas village it is already Christmas at its best.

5. Golden winter moments in Ottersum

On 7 December, the time has come again: the village centre of Ottersum will transform into a fairytale Christmas village for one evening. The Winter Fair is back and this year even warmer, cosier and more festive than last year. You can smell the mulled wine from afar, hear pleasant live music and before you know it you are standing at one of the atmospheric stalls with a hot chocolate in your hand. Here you will find unique gifts, craft products and delicacies made with love by local makers. How about a bowl of steaming pea soup, pumpkin soup or warm waffles with apple caramel and speculoos crumbs? The lights twinkle, the atmosphere is convivial and everywhere you hear, "Blief toch efkes hangen." Because you like to do that here. In Ottersum, you will experience real golden moments that evening.

6. A magical Christmas weekend at Monastery Graefenthal

If you walk under the gatehouse of Klooster Graefenthal, you step right into another world. A world full of cosy wooden huts and the smell of pine, mulled wine and fresh waffles. Among the stalls, you will find plenty of goodies: handmade chocolates, fragrant soaps, Dutch cheeses and unique Christmas gifts. While you browse around at your leisure, music can be heard everywhere. Think choirs, brass bands and musicians in Dickensian style - you know, with top hats and warm scarves. For children and grown-ups alike, there is plenty to do. Be surprised by spectacular fire shows, feast your eyes on the birds of prey and cuddle with the huskies. Hot chocolate in your hand, a snack... That's all you really need, isn't it?
