There’s more than one way to experience North Limburg. In Mook and Middelaar, you can walk through a landscape full of varied terrain and greenery. Gennep combines history and a convivial atmosphere in and around the town centre, whilst Bergen offers plenty of space for nature in De Maasduinen National Park. Further south, too, the character changes slightly. In Venray, the town and the countryside lie close together. Horst aan de Maas is all about local flavours, villages and plenty to experience together. Peel en Maas has a rural and friendly feel, with the River Maas never far away. Venlo combines shops, culture and outdoor cafés with charming places such as Arcen, Steyl and Tegelen. And in Beesel, you’ll find plenty of village charm – and you might even come across a dragon.
From nature and history to local cuisine and city life: every municipality adds something unique to North Limburg. It is precisely these differences that make this region such a delight to explore.

Creating memories together and enjoying golden moments. Out and about with grandad and grandma, a quick weekend away as a couple, or perhaps with your four-legged friend. In North Limburg, golden moments are there for the taking.
Sometimes such a moment lies in something big, such as seeking out thrills together at Toverland Amusement Park in Sevenum. Sometimes, however, it’s found in something small: picking up an ice cream at ’t IJshofje in Meijel, stopping off at a terrace along the way, or staying just a little longer because it’s so cosy. It’s precisely those moments that you take home with you.
Tip: these ‘golden spots’ in North Limburg let you see the region at its best.
Choose golden momentsHere, we know where things come from. Get out and about, taste what grows here and feel why North Limburg is so deeply connected to its land. And don’t forget the best bit: try the delicious local dishes.
Here, the seasons largely determine what happens in the fields and on the table. At Jeuken Farm Shop in Oostrum, for example, you’ll find fruit and vegetables grown on the farm’s own land, including asparagus as soon as it’s in season. Then head out into nature – perhaps to De Maasduinen National Park – and you’ll notice just how closely the landscape, soil and region are interconnected here.
Tip: you won’t want to miss these places offering typical Limburg local produce.
Experience and savour the regionYou can get a real taste of North Limburg in a slice of vlaai, when everyone comes together for Vastelaovend and when the asparagus season begins. This is not just a region where you see traditions, but where you truly experience them.
At the Limburgs Vlaaibakkerij Museum in Horst, you can discover the story behind one of Limburg’s most famous delicacies. In Arcen, at Graanbranderij de IJsvogel, you can sample yet another example of local craftsmanship. But the true spirit of Limburg is just as much about a casual chat, sitting down together at the table and taking time for one another.
Tip: read all about carnival in North Limburg during Vastelaovend.
Experience it the Limburg waySome places do not reveal their story straight away. An old façade, a landscape bearing traces of the past, or a story that has been passed down through the generations. Look a little longer, and North Limburg reveals more and more of itself.
In Gennep, at 1641 – Experience the Siege, you’ll find yourself right in the middle of a story from the past. In the village of Beesel, a dragon still roams, and here you can discover the story behind the ‘Draaksteken’ tradition. There is often much more to villages, buildings and landscapes than meets the eye.
