Father's Day is coming up, so don't wait too long to plan. Because a day out with your father in North Limburg doesn't have to be complicated. Climbing together, wandering through gardens, checking out a brewery, soaking up old stories or just doing something that makes you both laugh. In North Limburg, you will find plenty of places where you can experience something together, without fuss. Take the bike, get in the car or make it a quiet day out. These are 10 fun activities for dads who like a bit of action, story and fun.

 

High up in the trees at Fun Forest Venlo

Does your dad always have a cool story ready? Then he can show it off at Fun Forest Venlo. This climbing forest is located near Venlo and calls itself the first climbing forest in the Netherlands. You climb over various courses between the trees, with bridges, ropes and heights you choose yourself. Nice and active, but you decide together how far you go. Afterwards, the river Maas and the monastery village of Steyl are close by: about a 35-minute walk, a 10-minute bike ride or 6 minutes by car.

When are you welcome?
Fun Forest is open on Wednesday from 13:00 to 18:00, Friday from 15:00 to 18:30 and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 18:30.

Visitor tip
Wear sturdy shoes. That is just a bit nicer than climbing on slippers. Come climb together and see who stays calmest at the top.

Laughing together at Mind Mystery in Horst

At Mind Mystery in Horst, everything is about looking, looking again and then still doubting what you see. This indoor and outdoor experience museum works with optical illusions as its leitmotif. You will find, among other things, the house upside down, illusions and photo spots that often make fathers suddenly fanatical again. A visit takes 2 to 2.5 hours on average, so there is plenty of time to walk around leisurely. Strawberry Land is practically around the corner: about a 5-minute walk, a 2-minute bike ride or 2 minutes by car.

Mind Mystery is open Wednesday to Friday from 11:00 to 17:00, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00.

Roller coasters and wild water at Toverland in Sevenum

For fathers who like action, Toverland in Sevenum is a solid choice. The amusement park has over 40 rides and shows, including roller coasters and white-water rides. So you can go in all directions: from fast rides to wandering around the different worlds together. Great if your dad likes to pace himself, but also if you want to sit down in between. Combine your day with a short trip to De Groote Peel National Park: about 1 hour and 25 minutes walking, 25 minutes cycling or 12 minutes by car.

Toverland is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 17:30, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00.

Visitor tip
Buy tickets in advance and agree right away who picks the first roller coaster. At least then that's settled.

Through the brewing kettles at Hertog Jan in Arcen

A brewery visit is one of those father outings that automatically feel good. At the Hertog Jan Brewery in Arcen, you follow the brewing process with a guide. You will pass the copper brew kettles and the cellar with bottles of Grand Prestige of different vintages. Be careful: the tour goes through narrow and low passages and has 144 steps. Kasteeltuinen Arcen is nearby, about a 25-minute walk, 7 minutes by bike or 4 minutes by car.

When are you welcome?
A brewery visit is by reservation. The brewery is closed on Thursdays and Mondays. The rest of the week it is open from 11:00 to 17:00

Quietly strolling through Kasteeltuinen Arcen

Not every father wants to run, climb or race. Sometimes walking together is enough. Kasteeltuinen Arcen is a large flower and plant park around the castle, with gardens that change throughout the season. In 2026, the park will be open from 28 March to 1 November, with the exception of 18 to 21 September due to Elfia. Grain Distillery De IJsvogel is close by: about 18 minutes' walk, 5 minutes by bike or 4 minutes by car.

When are you welcome?
In season, daily from 10am to 6pm. Check current information before departure.

Take your time. This is not a place to rush through.

Tasting and watching at grain distillery De IJsvogel

In Arcen is Grain Roastery De IJsvogel, a place for dads who like to know how something is made. The location sits on the Schans and offers tours and a shop. The opening hours for 2026 are clearly stated on the website: from 3 April to 8 November daily from 11am to 6pm. Make it an Arcen day and walk to Kasteeltuinen Arcen: about an 18-minute walk, 5-minute bike ride or 4 minutes by car.

When are you welcome?
Grain Roastery De IJsvogel is open every day from 11:00 to 18:00.

Back in time at Museum Village De Locht

At Museumdorp De Locht in Melderslo, you walk through stories about living, working and life in the North Limburg countryside. The museum shows how people used to live, what they wore, what was eaten and how it was grown and prepared. Nice for fathers who like to say, "This is how things used to be." The Locht is maintained, managed and organised by volunteers. Huys ter Horst is nearby: about a 1-hour walk, 18 minutes by bike or 9 minutes by car.

When are you welcome?
De Locht is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00.

Limburg stories in the Limburgs Museum

Venlo is home to the Limburgs Museum, right opposite Venlo train station. The museum tells stories about the province and has ever-changing exhibitions and activities. Handy for a day out with your dad if you like to check something out together, but don't want to be outside all day. After your visit, you can walk straight into Venlo city centre: about a 5-minute walk, 2 minutes by bike or 3 minutes by car.

Limburgs Museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00.

Looking at ceramics at the Tiendschuur in Tegelen

Ceramics may sound quiet, but at Ceramics Centre Tiendschuur Tegelen, there is actually a lot of craftsmanship. The museum combines historical ceramics with ongoing exhibitions around contemporary ceramic art. The venue is located on the Holtmühle estate in Tegelen. That makes it a nice getaway if your dad loves crafts, history and a good look. Monastery village Steyl is close by: about a 35-minute walk, a 10-minute bike ride or six minutes by car.

Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00.

Combine your visit with a tour of Tegelen or Steyl. That way, you will automatically make it a quiet part of the day.

Indoor action at Taurus World of Adventure in Velden

Is the weather a bit off? Then sit dry at Taurus World of Adventure in Velden. Here you will find several indoor activities under one roof, such as Prison Island, Lasergames XL, Glow in the Dark Adventure Golf, Boutique Bowling, The Floor Is Lava, arcade games and pool billiards. This makes it convenient if you want to do something active with your dad without depending on the shower over northern Limburg. Arcen is about 1 hour and 35 minutes by foot, 25 minutes by bike or 10 minutes by car.

When are you welcome?
Taurus World of Adventure is open Monday to Thursday from 14:00 to 23:00, Friday from 14:00 to 1:00, Saturday from 11:00 to 1:30 and Sunday from 11:00 to 23:00.
