Museum village De Locht

At Museum de Locht, you step back in time. Between historic buildings, old crafts and authentic living quarters, you will discover what life in the North Limburg countryside used to be like. From the clothes they wore to the food on the table: there's a story behind everything.

Here you walk through a small, traditional northern Limburg village. A place full of stories about rural life. How people used to live, work and cook. What clothes they wore and how the land was worked. Rain or shine, there is always something to discover at De Locht. Spread over more than three hectares are some twenty buildings and gardens. Take a look at a fully furnished 19th-century farmhouse or find out what life was like on a medieval farm. Visit the smithy, the syrup factory and the textile pavilion. There is more to see here than you can comprehend in one day. De Locht connects past and present. You will learn all about growing mushrooms and asparagus and follow the development of greenhouse farming. Herbs, soft fruit and forgotten vegetables grow in the gardens. There are regular demonstrations of old crafts. The auction clock runs, syrup is cooked and fresh bread is baked. For children, there are (digital) scavenger hunts, Old Dutch games and changing activities. Special: Museum village De Locht is even recreated in ROBLOX. So you can also discover the village from home.

4.5

"What a pleasant surprise. De Locht is spacious, educational and yet very friendly. Visitors especially cite the committed volunteers, the crafts and the combination of inside and outside as plus points. There is also plenty for children to do. And afterwards, that fresh asparagus soup in the restaurant tastes extra good."

Frequently asked questions

Museum village De Locht is especially fun during asparagus season, when the asparagus and auction house comes alive. But there is also plenty to discover in the off-season. The many buildings, demonstrations and gardens make it a fine place for a quiet day out in northern Limburg.

Yes, children have a great time here. There are scavenger hunts, Old Dutch games and regular extra activities. Because you get to see and experience a lot, a visit feels less like a traditional museum and more like an exploration of the past.

Sure. In De Locht's restaurant, you can enjoy coffee with something sweet or a fresh bowl of asparagus soup in season. That soup is really part of the visit for many visitors. Extra nice: the recipe is also on De Locht's website, so you can enjoy it at home.
