Things to do in Bergen

Yes, Bergen is great for children who love being outdoors. Around the Reindersmeer, you can go for walks, have a picnic and take the cable ferry along the way. That makes a walk just that bit more exciting. At Beachclub Leukermeer, there’s plenty of space for water fun, swimming and playing on the shore.

The campsites and holiday parks in Bergen are also ideal for families. These include Leukermeer Holiday Park, Klein Canada Campsite and Roland Campsite, all offering plenty of outdoor space, swimming areas, playgrounds and seasonal activities. Prefer to see some animals? Then the Bergse Schaapskooi is a lovely stop for children who’d love to see lambs and sheep up close.

When it comes to nature and tranquillity, De Maasduinen National Park is the main attraction. The Reindersmeer is lovely for a circular walk with views over the water. At Landgoed De Hamert, you can walk through heathland, woodland and river dunes. In the Eckeltse Bergen and the Bergerbos, you’ll find sheltered paths and quiet green spaces. Don’t forget to pay a visit to Bergerhof Farm either.

For a bit of history, head to the Bleijenbeek castle ruins near Afferden. There, the landscape and the past come together beautifully. Fancy something active? Try wake surfing on Lake Leukermeer, cycle along the River Maas or play a round of golf at the Bleijenbeek Estate. Afterwards, settle down at a woodland brasserie, forest café or terrace in one of the villages.

On and around the Leukermeer, it’s all about water, the great outdoors and that holiday feeling. You can go swimming, boating, stand-up paddleboarding or wakesurfing there. At Jachthaven ’t Leuken, boats and terraces are close together, making it easy to spend a whole day by the water.
