1. Knights and Roverspad: an exciting route hiking in North Limburg

For children aged 6 to 10, there is little more exciting than knights and robbers. The Knights and Robbers trail plays perfectly to that. This adventurous trail of about two kilometres takes you into the forest, where history meets nature. Along the way, children discover which knights hunted here and how robbers lived in the landscape. Along the path there are several information boards. The knights tell about the past, the robbers share fun facts about animals and nature. In between, you will come across special carvings: animals standing as silent sentinels along the route. The route starts at Huys ter Horst Castle and is easy to follow thanks to wooden posts with a dove on them. It always points you in the right direction. This makes walking in North Limburg a real adventure.

In Venlo, the party starts with the Boètegewoeëne Boètezitting, the official kick-off of the carnival season. Venray also shows its merriest side. In the city centre, you can celebrate vastelaovend during Roetsj & Lensjekke, where the carnival feeling immediately spills over. In Gennep, the Mèrtzitting is on the programme: an exuberant party full of polonaises and carnival songs that children sing along just as loudly as their parents. And of course, there is no vastelaovend without a parade. In Molenhoek, a colourful procession passes through the streets on Carnival Monday during the parade of De Molenwiekers, Limburg's northernmost carnival association. This is just some of the programme for the Carnival holidays in 2026. Need more inspiration? Read our blog about vastelaovend in North Limburg.
