This is ideal for visitors who want to enjoy themselves together, have an adventure and still stay close to nature.

When will you visit?

In spring and summer, this is a place for bare arms, water fun and long days outdoors. In autumn and winter, a houseboat feels particularly cosy: wake up on the water, put on your coat and head straight for Mookerheide. Marina Mookerplas describes itself as a place for both summer and winter, so you don’t have to wait for beach weather.

What to expect.

At Marina Mookerplas, it’s all about that lovely feeling of being surrounded by water. You arrive in Middelaar, close to the Mookerheide, and immediately see boats, jetties and the lake. Here, you set your own pace. Drift peacefully along in a sloop, head out onto the water for a bit of sport on a SUP or in a kayak, or explore the surroundings on an e-chopper. For groups, there are packages combining coffee, cakes, lunch, dinner and bespoke programmes.

If you’d like to stay a little longer, you can stay on a houseboat. From your terrace, you can look out over the Mookerplas and, when the weather’s fine, simply step straight out onto the water. The houseboats are furnished as comfortable holiday accommodation, with heating for chilly days and air conditioning for hot summers.

The atmosphere is relaxed and lovely outdoors. No faff, just water, nature, the beach and plenty to do. Did you know that the Mookerheide is about a ten-minute walk away? That way, you can combine boating and walking without cramming too much into your day.

The strength of Marina Mookerplas lies in its location. Middelaar is part of North Limburg and is situated exactly where water, heathland, forests and a sense of being on the border come together. You’re right by the Mookerplas recreation area, close to Germany and near the Mookerheide. This means you can easily switch between boating, swimming, cycling, walking and simply relaxing with a tasty treat.

For a single activity, you can expect to spend half a day to a full day. For a houseboat, a weekend or midweek break is better, as this allows you to also explore the Mookerheide, Plasmolen and the banks of the Mookerplas. Parking is available at the Mookerplas leisure area; entry to the area is free, but you pay for parking via the system with barriers and a QR code.

Our tip

Combine a boat trip with a stop at De Loopplank restaurant by the harbour. First, a leisurely trip out onto the water, then back ashore with a view over the Mookerplas. That’ll make your day just that little bit more perfect.

Region tip: The icon in the neighbourhood

De Maasduinen National Park pairs perfectly with Marina Mookerplas. Start by taking to the water at Middelaar, then head on to the dunes, woods and heathland of North Limburg. By car, it takes about 25 minutes to reach the northern part near Afferden; by bike, allow about 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on your route.
