At Landgoed Arcen, you walk among ancient oaks, fens, shifting dunes and Maas banks. A varied nature area where history and tranquillity come together beautifully and where you automatically feel the urge to take one more path.
Who is this a real getaway for?
Landgoed Arcen is really for you if you are happy with tranquillity, nature and hiking without the hassle. For hikers, this is one of those places where you don't keep looking at the clock. Bird lovers, photographers and people who like to be outdoors are also in the right place. You don't come here for crowds, but for a few hours of fresh air, beautiful vistas and that nice feeling of getting away from it all.
When will you visit?
Actually, this can be done all year round. In spring, it feels fresh and alive here, with forest edges and fens regaining colour. In summer, you walk delicately under the trees. Autumn might be at its best here, with crackling paths and warm colours all around you. And even on a chilly winter day, this is one of those areas where a brisk walk just tastes extra good. As the area is freely accessible on roads and paths, it is easy to be spontaneous here.
What to expect.
Expect a diverse natural area with rich forests, ancient oaks, fens, butterfly-rich forest edges, shifting dunes, wet grasslands and stretches along the Meuse such as Barbara's Weerd. Along the way, you will also come across historical traces, such as Fort Hazepoot and the remains of an ancient maze. Did you know that you can choose from three walking routes here that take you past all kinds of special places?
It's best to set aside two to three hours for a visit if you want a nice round trip, although a shorter diversions will do just fine. The surroundings feel green, quiet and varied, with forest, open spaces and water that keeps popping up. Parking is available in several places around the area, which is nice if you want to start your route smartly. Good to know: the paths are freely accessible, but sturdy shoes really aren't a luxury in wet weather. For dogs and accessibility, it is smart to check the current route information beforehand, as the surface varies from part of the area. Restaurants are not everywhere directly on the route, so feel free to bring your own treats along the way.
When are you welcome?
You are welcome here all year round. Apart from Kasteeltuinen Arcen, Arcen Estate is freely accessible on roads and paths. That is precisely what makes it such a nice place for a spontaneous stroll, without having to make a lot of arrangements first.

Our tip for your visit
Start early in the day at one of the parking spots at the edge of the area and walk right first towards the quieter stretches with fens and forest edges. There you can hear the estate at its best: birds, wind through the trees and not much else. Those are often the moments that linger longest.
The icon nearby
The nearby icon is Grain Roastery de IJsvogel in Arcen. That fits in nicely here, because after a walk through forest and along old tracks of the estate, you can go straight to a place where craft and history are still very much alive. First recharge outside, then take a look inside at a place with character: that makes your day in Arcen just that little bit fuller.
