The Fruit Barn is one such place where you can really disconnect from the day. You sleep in an old fruit barn in the middle of greenery, with its own garden, firepit and views of the countryside. Peace, privacy and the great outdoors come together very nicely here.
Who is this a real getaway for?
This is a wonderful place for hikers, cyclists, peace seekers and couples who like to stay small. Also, if you want to go out with your dog or just land for a few days between Venlo and Arcen, this is the place to be. If you're looking for a place where it's allowed to be quiet and nature feels close at hand, then De Fruitschuur suits you nicely.
When will you visit?
In spring, it is extra nice here with blossom, fresh air and long walks ahead. In summer, you automatically want to stay outside under the pear tree. And especially in autumn or on a chilly winter day, that wood-burning stove inside feels wonderful again. This is one of those addresses that has something nice about every season.
What to expect.
You stay here in a former fruit storage barn that is completely detached and has been converted into a cosy place with its own kitchen, shower, toilet and garden. The old staircase and other original elements have simply remained, giving the place extra character. Did you know that you even have a sleeping place here on the ground floor if that sleeping loft is just not convenient?
For stays of two to three nights, you'll be right at home, although you can stay longer if you really want to unwind. You stay in the hamlet of Schandelo, between the Zwart Water and Ravenvennen nature reserves, with National Park De Maasduinen also nearby. Parking is free on site. Dogs are welcome, as are horses if you let us know in advance. Also nice: for breakfast and other requests, they think along with you, from vegetarian and gluten-free to vegan. For less mobile guests, there is a sleeping option on the ground floor, although of course the place remains an old barn with character.
When are you welcome?
The Fruit Barn operates by reservation. Usually you check in around 5pm and check out around 11am, although they also indicate on the reservation page that other times are sometimes just possible if you let them know in advance. The minimum stay is two nights and the maximum seven nights.

Our tip for your visit
Don't just stay overnight here, but really plan a quiet evening outside. Once it twilightens a bit and you sit by the firepit for a while, you'll understand exactly why guests keep talking about the tranquillity here. Trek a route through Zwart Water or Ravenvennen during the day, and then just let the evening slow down.

Combine your stay with the Limburgs Museum in Venlo. First wake up among the countryside, then spend a few hours wandering through the stories of Limburg in the city. That combo is gold, precisely because your day then switches beautifully from silence and outdoors to culture and character.
