Steyl Abbey Brewery

Sample locally brewed speciality beer in a beautifully restored monastery workshop. At Kloosterbrouwerij Steyl, craftsmanship, local flavours and the monastery’s unique history come together over well-filled glasses, wholesome dishes and a welcoming terrace in the heart of historic Steyl.

Who is this a real treat for?
For lovers of craft beer, local cuisine and unique historical sites. The brewery also makes for a lovely stop-off during a walk through Steyl or along the Pieterpad.

When will you be popping in?
It’s a lovely place to settle down all year round. On chilly days, you can enjoy the historic atmosphere indoors, whilst the terrace in spring and summer invites you to linger a little longer.

What can you expect?
Steyl Abbey Brewery is located in the former Schlosserei, where monks used to work with metal. Now it’s all about beer, local produce and hospitality.

You can sample a variety of their own beers, such as Blond, Klooster Tripel, Steyler Tripel and the unique Broodbier. As many local ingredients as possible are used, including honey from Steyler beekeepers and herbs from the monastery garden.

The old workshop has been tastefully restored and now serves as a brewery, tasting room, café and shop. As a result, a visit feels not only like a cosy lunch or a drink, but also like a brief introduction to the unique story of Steyl.

Why this will become your favourite stop in the region
The combination of local beer, a historic atmosphere and its location in the heart of the monastic village of Steyl makes this place special. From the brewery, you can easily continue your walk past monasteries, gardens, museums and the River Meuse.
