Step back in time for a moment and discover life in the Peel. From old tools to stories of the past, this is a small museum with a big story.
Who is this a real getaway for?
This is one such site for curious visitors who like to learn the story behind a region. Great for history buffs, those who love old crafts and anyone who wants to drop in during a walk or bike ride. Also fun with (grand)children, precisely because everything here is so tangible and recognisable.
When will you visit?
You prefer to come here on a quiet Saturday afternoon, when you are in the area anyway. Make it a stopover on a cycle route or walk through the Peel. Want a bit more time and explanation? Then just schedule a visit by appointment, which immediately makes it extra personal.
What to expect.
Here you walk past a collection of old machinery, tools and utensils from farm life and peat extraction. Everything tells something about how hard people used to work in this region. From clog makers to blacksmiths and from the household to the land: you can see it all here. Did you know that you can even come across a fire engine from 1870 and a T-Ford from 1919?
Practically, this is a low-key outing. Expect to spend 1 to 1.5 hours looking around and listening to the stories. You're here in quiet Ysselsteyn, in the middle of the Peel region, where you can easily combine your visit with a walk or bike ride. Parking is available just near the museum.
When are you welcome?
You can drop in without an appointment on Saturday afternoons from 13:30 to 16:00. You are also welcome at other times, but please arrange in advance.

Combine your visit with a bike ride through the Peel and get off for a while here. Just that change of being outside and then hearing the story behind it will make your day complete.

Combine this museum with National Park De Groote Peel. First you will see what life was like here in the past in the museum, then you will step into the landscape yourself. That combination is gold: you suddenly look at what you see outside very differently.
