Nature reserve Brachterwald is a vast nature reserve on the border with Germany where you can hike through forests and across heathland.
Located near Swalmen, close to the German border, the Brachterwald is one of the largest contiguous nature reserves in this region. Here you walk through forests and across heathland, in a landscape where peace and space are self-evident.
Discover how quiet it can be here. In The Brachterwald, you walk along wide sandy paths and narrow forest trails, surrounded by pines, deciduous trees and open stretches of heathland. Every now and then you come across an open plain where the light has free rein. You can mostly hear birds and the wind through the trees here. Because the area is so large, it never feels crowded. You really are away for a while, even though Swalmen is not far away.
Tip for your visit: put on good walking shoes and choose a longer route. Especially if you walk a little further into the area, you will experience the peace and space that The Brachterwald is known for.
The Brachterwald is part of a cross-border nature reserve and is known as one of the quietest and most pristine natural areas in the North Limburg region.
