Herman van Veen

Came across someone in the market the other day who looked at me in surprise: 'Do you still exist?" tended to turn around. We got talking. The man had seen me in the theatre in the 1960s. He had once emigrated but returned to the Netherlands to be buried in Utrecht in due course.

Told him that besides genetic luck, singing has probably ensured that I can still play with heart and soul about a hundred and forty performances a year. Of course, I crack here and there and don't jump as high as I did at seventy-eight.

So yes sir I'm still here, and if it's up to me even longer.

About Herman van Veen Herman van Veen (born 1945) is a singer, writer, composer, painter and theatre maker. Since his debut in 1965, he has travelled the world with his performances. He has made about one hundred and eighty CDs, some eighty books, a few dozen plays and a lot of paintings. He has often received flowers for both his artistic and humanitarian work. Herman is father of four children, grandfather of three grandchildren and stepfather of Alfred Jodocus Kwak.
