until 24 August 2028
During the Wine Safari, winegrower Hans takes you on an accessible journey of discovery through the North Limburg vineyards and the winery of Wijnmakerij & Wijnslaperij Zaerums Genieten.
Vines all around you, wine straight from the owner’s own cellar and a winegrower who’s happy to explain how a bottle like this actually comes about. During the Zaerums Genieten Wine Safari, you’ll delve into the world of North Limburg wine alongside Mariëlle and Hans Verdellen. Right here in Sevenum, also known as Zaerum.
What is the Wine Safari?
During the Wine Safari, you’ll spend around two hours discovering how winegrowing works in North Limburg. Winegrower Hans will take you on a tour of the vineyards and through the winery. Along the way, you’ll learn how the grapes are grown, how the climate affects them and what machinery is needed to turn grapes into wine.
Then, of course, comes the best part. You’ll taste four of Zaerums Genieten’s own wines, paired with baguette and brie. Weather permitting, this takes place outdoors amongst the grapevines. That way, you don’t just taste the wine, but you also get to hear the story behind the glass.
Mariëlle and Hans have been making wine from grapes grown in their own vineyards since 2010. There are now around 4,800 vines, and they produce red, white and rosé wines. It is precisely this combination of looking around, listening and tasting that makes the safari a wonderful activity for friends, family or colleagues who want to enjoy a local experience together.
Spending the night in wine barrels
Would you like to savour that vineyard atmosphere for a little longer? You can also stay overnight at Zaerums Genieten Winery & Wine Lodgings. In two large, comfortable wine barrels, you’ll literally sleep amongst the vines. A special place to round off your visit to the vineyard and wake up peacefully amidst the greenery the next morning.
