Hedda Gabber

Monday 4 January 2027

Hedda Gabler returns in a theatrical rave after 135 years.

The world anno 2026 rages on like an incessant DJ set. (F)influencers, career gurus and productivity pimps wave the sceptre. The mantra of modern times seems clear: to stand still is to go backwards.

In Hedda Gabber, Daniëlle Deddens takes Ibsen's famous character out from under the dust for a hardstyle performance. Through the confrontation between this character -who has succumbed to her boredom- and a Gen-Z'er for whom boredom seems impossible, Daniëlle, together with musician/producer Wijnand Gomes, explores the concept of stagnation anno 2026. In today's neoliberal society, are humans still capable of being bored? And how do you stand still in a world on fire?

Hedda Gabber is a club night on crack, an ode to the craziness that happens when you come to a standstill. Daniëlle Deddens plays, sings and moves herself through a fluid theatrical world: from hyper pop kitsch to sultry ballads, Ibsen quotes to TikToktaal. With a hefty dose of Gen Z-anxiety but deep-rooted faith that things will work out, we dance the night away. Because after chaos always comes silence.

Bio Daniëlle Deddens Daniëlle Deddens (2000) is a versatile performer and maker from Rotterdam, active in music theatre and theatre. She graduated summa cum laude from Music Theatre Codarts Rotterdam in 2023, where she already stood out for her expressive voice, musicality and strong sense of performance. You can currently see her in the musical Willem van Oranje, a new large-scale Dutch musical directed by Theu Boermans. There, she is part of the ensemble and understudy for the roles of Eva Elinx and Anna van Saksen.

Besides her executive work, Daniëlle is also active as a creator. In June 2025, she won the Werkplaats Walhalla Pitch with her own performance Hedda Gabber, a new music theatre project focusing on feminist stories and current female characters, scheduled to premiere on 16 October 2026. In doing so, she builds on previous work such as her self-written musical theatre project NORA - a POP concert: an energetic and feminist performance in which she reinterprets the classic character Nora (from Ibsen's A Doll's House) with pop music, performance and theatrical power. This solo was presented at O. Festival, among others, and already gave a taste of her artistic voice.
