Emma Crebolder
On the side façade of the former V & D building on Heilige Geeststraat is a poem by Emma Crebolder. Crebolder wrote the poem to commemorate Remy van der Grinten and his wife. She travelled with them through their former neighbourhood in Tanzania. There, they took a boat trip across Lake Tanganyika to see the chimpanzees. Remy died around the time the poem was inscribed. In 1993, Emma Crebolder became the first official city poet within the Dutch-speaking region in Venlo, the city where she was living at the time. Her city poems were collected in *Weerkaatst in de stroom*.
