The Portuguese House (Una Quinta Portuguesa)

Fernando is a shy professor of geography in Barcelona with a particular fondness for paper maps. Those maps are of no help to him when, one morning, without warning or explanation, his wife packs her bags and leaves him feeling lost and adrift. Fernando decides to travel to north-western Portugal, where he meets Manuel, a gardener who was just about to start a job at a beautiful old country house. When Manuel suddenly dies, Fernando impulsively assumes his identity. He travels to the quinta owned by the headstrong Amália, with whom he forms a special, easy-going friendship.
This elegant, slightly melancholic drama takes on the leisurely pace of life on a quinta, inspired by a true story. It is carried by the performances of Manolo Solo (PAN’S LABYRINTH) and the ever-fantastic Maria de Medeiros (PULP FICTION), with the added bonus of a brilliant performance by Branka Katić as a vivacious Serbian waitress with a free spirit.
Avelina Prat (Valencia, 1972) is an architect, screenwriter and filmmaker. After a career as a script supervisor on more than 30 feature films, she made her directorial debut with *Vasil* (2022), followed by *THE PORTUGUESE HOUSE* (*Una quinta Portuguesa*), which premiered at the Málaga Film Festival and was nominated for three Goyas, Spain’s most prestigious film awards.
