Popronde in Maaspoort

saturday 31 october

Popronde is an initiative of the Popwaarts Foundation and is a nationwide travelling festival that takes place every autumn from September to November in about 40 cities across the country. From Leeuwarden to Middelburg, from Venlo to Alkmaar and from Deventer to The Hague. During those 12 weeks, Pop Rounds take place every weekend from Thursday to Sunday. In each city, the programmed acts perform that evening/day at around 20 venues and locations. Examples of participating venues are cafés, galleries, theatres, record shops, churches, pop stages and clubs in the centre of a city. One night a year, these are the showcase for the new generation of pop musicians and the city centre is the festival site.

The Popronde is free in every city.

The Popronde offers (as yet) unknown acts the opportunity to present themselves outside their own region and gain intensive touring and playing experience. The programming is not tied to any music style and gives an overview of what is happening in live music - outside the mainstream - in the Netherlands. From metal to hip-hop, from singer-songwriters to drum 'n bass, from rock to blues; almost every genre is represented. An annual selection process takes place. Acts that want to tour with the Popronde can apply from 1 December. A selection committee then considers all the applications and selects the 100 or so acts from the more than 1,000 applications that will be part of that year's programme. The Popronde is a showcase festival and not a competition.
