Rome, 1980. After her magnum opus *L’ARTE DELLA GIOIA* (THE ART OF JOY), on which she had worked for ten years, was rejected by the Italian publishing world, the writer Goliarda ended up in prison for stealing jewellery.
Her encounter there with a group of young female prisoners proves to be a life-changing experience. After their release, the women continue to meet throughout a sizzling summer, and Goliarda develops a deep bond with Roberta, a repeat offender and political activist. They share a connection that some find incomprehensible, but through their unlikely bond, Goliarda rediscovers the joy of life and the urge to write.
Inspired by the life of one of Italy’s most iconic authors, Goliarda Sapienza. FUORI was filmed in Goliarda Sapienza’s actual home.
