In her semi-autobiographical film, filmmaker Sophie Hyde (Good Luck To You, Leo Grande) explores both natural and chosen family ties.
Filmmaker Hannah (Olivia Colman) travels to Amsterdam with her non-binary teenage daughter Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde) to visit her father Jim (John Lithgow). Frances affectionately calls him ‘Jimpa’ and hopes to stay with him for a year. This forces Hannah to confront her role as a parent and her sense of responsibility. Jim urges Frances to explore the queer scene in Amsterdam. But he cannot escape the realisation that the freedom he sought in Amsterdam is not the same as that of his grandchild.
JIMPA was selected for the Sundance Festival and the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Alongside international stars, the film features Dutch actors such as Hans Kesting, Romana Vrede and Zoë Love Smith.

‘It relies on its lead actors. Olivia Colman and John Lithgow shine.’
